Who is going to be drinking these with me?! I have almost 75 bottles that I Coravined to study for my WSET Diploma these past few months. Each bottle has maybe 1-2 glasses taken from it. That leaves a heck of a lot of wine that needs to go!

Celebrating a ton of things tonight with an extra

Celebrating a ton of things tonight with an extra special bottle of Champagne - the 2013 Cristal from Louis Roederer - my personal fave! We’re toasting to the completion of my WSET Diploma exams, a belated Mother’s Day (since we didn’t celebrate last weekend), my son taking the SATs and his AP finals this week, and the successful completion of another great volleyball season for my daughter. You never need a special reason to open a bottle of bubbles though, so pop a cork this weekend and enjoy!

OMG, it’s done!!! I hope I pass because I NEVER want to do that again 😂! I won’t know my results for 3 months, but it’ll be a wonderful 3 months of not studying!!!

I celebrated with a tasting at Lang & Reed Napa Valley. I only had time for one tasting and I chose these guys who make some of the only varietal Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc in Napa Valley. It was the highlight of the trip! Owner, John Skrupny, spent almost 2 hours with me talking about his amazing history in the industry and his phenomenal, low production, stellar wines! It is so rare in Napa these days to do a tasting direct with the owner and winemaker - what a huge treat!! I can’t recommend them enough.

Now enjoying dinner at the delicious dinner at one my fave dinner spots - Farmstead at Longmeadow Ranch - then back to SFO for the red eye home.

The day has finally arrived! I’m in Napa celebra

The day has finally arrived! I’m in Napa celebrating the completion of the Theory portion of my exam. Four hours and 5 essay questions later, and I really need this drink! Enjoying a glass of Trouchard Roussanne, something I had actually been looking for last week and couldn’t find in NJ. I was so excited to see it on the wine list - it was meant to be! ☺️

Roussanne is a white grape variety from the Rhone Valley of France. It is a pain to grow so is rarely found as a single varietal. Most often it is blended with Marsanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc in Southern Rhone whites. This one is from Carneros, the coolest, most southerly appellation in Napa next to the cold San Pablo Bay. It tastes of peaches, pears and honey with a creamier texture - delicious!

Tomorrow is the 3-hour tasting portion of the exam which involves blind tasting 12 wines. Wish me luck!! 🥂

T minus 2 days to exam time. The cramming and tast

T minus 2 days to exam time. The cramming and tastings continue! I tasted 16 bottles tonight!!! Included in those were a side-by-side tasting of a young (2018) and an aged (2011) Hunter Valley Semillon from Australia. The aged wine is something I can’t get in the US, so my lovely friend from Oz, Amy Zahn, came for a visit the other week and brought me a bottle direct from the motherland ❤️.

This is a wine I have only read about in my studies, but never experienced. In the sub-tropical climate of hot, humid Hunter Valley (just north of Sydney) they make a style of Semillon that turns from sharp citrus (green apple, lemon, lime) to something nutty, honeyed and biscuity. Its something the grape does on its own while in stainless steel tanks without any oak influence. And the Hunter Valley is the only place in the world where this happens to Semillon! I was so thrilled to finally experience it first-hand. ☺️

My Sunday! Exam is 10 days away and I’m cramming. Once it’s over, I’ll be popping the corks on dozens of Coravined tasting bottles for anyone who wants to come over and enjoy! You’ll be hearing a lot more from me once I can get my head above water. Looking forward to the summer!!!
